Operant conditioning

Clockwork Orange and Operant Conditioning:
In the clockwork orange, a previously violent man named Alex is given the opportunity to get out of jail by participating in the Ludovico treatment. A treatment where the patient was injected with a substance that causes him to be ill and then forces him to watch violent movies. As a result, the patient felt sick every time he wanted to act out violently. The treatment used is called operant conditioning. It was first studied by the behaviorist, B.F. Skinner who also called it instrumental learning. Operant conditioning is a method of learning through punishments and rewards for behavior. Operant conditioning makes a connection between a certain behavior and a consequence for that behavior. In the movie Clockwork Orange they used positive punishment to change this behavior of Alex. This is when a certain behavior followed by an unfavorable event. The Clockwork orange also used continuous reinforcement, which means that the patient felt sick EVERY single time he tried to behave violently. As a result, Alex was physically unable to act out violently without becoming unbearably ill.
